Used servers can mean many things. Some companies advertise used and refurbished servers as identical types of equipment. Used equipment is usually equipment that has been set aside and has not been thoroughly cleaned or tested. It is usually assumed that a purchased used server will be delivered in fully operational condition. This is not always the case with used servers.

  • No real testing is done before the sale.
  • A technician or engineer has not inspected the system.
  • The used server does not pass stress tests.
  • The interior is not cleaned.

Usually, used servers are sold “as is” and without the ability to customize them to fit your needs.

Good or bad you get what you pay for. A used system may come in great condition or you may end up with a server that doesn’t work or even missing components. Unrefurbished hardware can malfunction and cost you days of downtime for your business.

Refurbished servers are used servers that have been rebuilt, repaired or refurbished by IT professionals.
